Magherafelt Nursery School, Magherafelt

Mission Statement

It is our vision that our school motto of ‘Exploring, Learning and Growing Together’ permeates the fabric and ethos of our school. Working together with you, the parent, we will seek to share in your child’s learning journey as we seek to provide enriched and meaningful learning experiences for your child.

It is our view that “at Magherafelt Nursery School we provide an ‘informal’ yet highly organised educational environment, which is conducive to both learning and teaching. Staff are pro-active in developing high levels of self-confidence, involvement, and self-regulation; providing our young pupils with a head start in learning that will last a life-time.”

We encourage our children to:

  • Play with and care for each other with love and respect.
  • Be accepting of each other’s similarities and differences.
  • Work towards an age and stage appropriate level of independence.
  • Be happy and healthy.
  • Make progress in all areas of their development.
  • Have a sense of wonder and a love for learning.
  • Build friendships with others.
  • Be tolerant of others, listening to and accepting their ideas.
  • Get to know their local community.

Our values are built upon the following principles:

  • Parents and carers are the children’s first educators.
  • Our pre-school curriculum is based on an understanding of the development of young children and research into how they learn.
  • A close working partnership with home and community.
  • Nursery School is the foundation on which children build the rest of their lives; it is not just a preparation for the next stage.
  • Playing and talking are the main ways through which young children learn about themselves, their culture and the world around them.
  • Children learn most effectively from first-hand experience and when they are actively involved and interested.

  • Children need time and space to produce work of quality and depth. They also need opportunities to re-visit and consolidate learning.
  • Children move forward in their learning when they experience real learning situations based around the locality and surrounding area in which they live.
